STEM WITH POOL NOODLES? This activity is going to require...A little fun in the sun! Around this time second graders should be familiar with or starting to get familiar with measurements. So, the first step to this activity will be to measure each noodle with a ruler to 4-5 inches and cut it into several pieces with some safety scissors. The next step would be to just hand the children a few toothpicks and the now several noodle pieces. They're job is to build or connect the pool noodles like Legos, to create their own architecture. This activity is very simple and easy to do and can be changed and redone over and over again. This is definitely a good activity for over the summer, to keep the children entertained and engaged for a while!

Floating dry-erase marker Science Experiment This week's activity is called floating dry-erase marker experiment. I've been seeing a lot on platforms like TikTok and Pinterest recently and thought it would be cool to give it a try for this week's at-home activity. It's really simple yet, entertaining for our students! All we need for this week's activity is: Dry Erase Markers, Water of any temperature, Glass or ceramic plate/bowl, Spoon or Popsicle stick. We're going to start off by having your children write letters, shapes, or words with the markers at the bottom of the plate/bowl. Which is great for practicing their writing skills with different utensils! Next, they will pour the water into the plate/bowl and use their spoon or popsicle stick to move their letters or shapes around to create different words or patterns. They can dump the water out, dry it out, and continue to explore their endless possibilities of dry-erase symbols!

🎨Invisible Ink Art 🎨 For this week's at home project, we will be embracing our children's scientist and artist sides. We can start off with either getting a lemon or lemon juice from the store. Lemons from Walmart are a few cents so, I can buy a bag of lemons, different sized paint brushes, and printing paper from the dollar tree. I would put all the ingredients and instructions for this activity in a bag and send it home for the children and the families to do together. The first step of this project would be to pre-heat the oven to 250 degrees, this means supervision is needed for this activity. Next step would be to squeeze the lemon juice into a cup, and choose which size brush would be best to write their hidden message or drawing in. After they're message is complete, it's time to put the paper into the oven for 20 minutes, until the message has turned brown and can be more easily seen. This is an enriching activity for your children 's fine motor writin...

Cookies with the Family 🍪🍴 This activity is not only reading, writing, and mathematically rich, but it is also a familiar fun activity for the whole family to join in and have fun! At this point in your young children's careers, they should be familiar with adding and subtracting numbers, so this is going to be the first step of the activity. Each ingredient that goes into making the cookies will be listed one by one, with a subtraction or addition problem for them to solve to find out how many cups, tablespoon, or teaspoon they need. For example, they would solve the problem of "5-2" next to cup of flour, to find out they will need 3 cups of flour to make their cookie dough. After all of the problems are solved, and the ingredients are mixed and baked, they will be given a 5 senses worksheet and they will fill it out as they are tasting their cookies. For example, one of the lines will say "My cookie tastes.." and they would fi...
