Hidden Messages Written in Lemon Juice

For this week's at home project, we will be embracing our children's scientist and artist sides. We can start off with either getting a lemon or lemon juice from the store. Lemons from Walmart are a few cents so, I can buy a bag of lemons, different sized paint brushes, and printing paper from the dollar tree. I would put all the ingredients and instructions for this activity in a bag and send it home for the children and the families to do together. The first step of this project would be to pre-heat the oven to 250 degrees, this means supervision is needed for this activity. Next step would be to squeeze the lemon juice into a cup, and choose which size brush would be best to write their hidden message or drawing in. After they're message is complete, it's time to put the paper into the oven for 20 minutes, until the message has turned brown and can be more easily seen. This is an enriching activity for your children 's fine motor writing skills. By this age. the grasping skill should have already been developed, so this activity is just a fun way to practice the posture in which they need to hold their writing tools since they'll be introduced to more writing prompts in the second and third grade.
