Cookies with the Family 🍪🍴

This activity is not only reading, writing, and mathematically rich, but it is also a familiar fun activity for the whole family to join in and have fun! At this point in your young children's careers, they should be familiar with adding and subtracting numbers, so this is going to be the first step of the activity. Each ingredient that goes into making the cookies will be listed one by one, with a subtraction or addition problem for them to solve to find out how many cups, tablespoon, or teaspoon they need. For example, they would solve the problem of "5-2" next to cup of flour, to find out they will need 3 cups of flour to make their cookie dough. After all of the problems are solved, and the ingredients are mixed and baked, they will be given a 5 senses worksheet and they will fill it out as they are tasting their cookies. For example, one of the lines will say "My cookie tastes.." and they would fill it out with adjectives like "...sweet and salty." Throughout this whole experience, I encourage you to interact with your child, and try to expand their thinking as they are completing each task! To make it even more challenging, you can use toy money or monopoly money to practice dealing with exchanging money for the product.
